SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — There is a lot to take in at Eptek Art & Culture Centre next month.

Exhibits

A retrospective exhibition of work by Island artist Nan Ferrier called 85 Years of Painting and Drawing is on display at the centre.

Showcasing works from various stages in Ferrier’s art history, the exhibit features portraits, life drawings, streetscapes, landscapes, figure skaters, moments from everyday life and other works.

Patrons can also take in the Music P.E.I. Album Art exhibit.

See the cover art from this year’s album-related nominees and listen to new songs from the past year.

Both exhibits will be on display until March 27.

Books

Eptek’s on-site gift shop carries only Island art and craft, as well as books on local themes.

The members of the Eptek Centre book club meet on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. when they will discuss the book The Earth Hums in B Flat.

Written by Mari Strachan, it is a story of dark family secrets unraveled by the shrewd insight of 12-year-old Gwenni Morgan, a child with an irrepressible spirit living in a Welsh village who is reluctantly entering the modern age.

New members are welcome.

Films

The Friends of Eptek Centre’s Lunchtime Film series runs from October until the end of April.

The films, mostly travelogues, are screened each Thursday at noon.

In March, take in the following films:

  • March 5 - Peru: Golden Treasure (53 min.) distributed by Questar;
  • March 12 - British Isles Collection: Touring Ireland (65 min.) distributed by Questar;
  • March 19 - Scenic Railway Journeys of the World: From the Pyramids to Down Under (55 min.) distributed by Readers Digest; and
  • March 26 - Never Too Old: Aging is a Normal Part of Life (45 min.) distributed by CBC Television.

Those interested can bring their lunch, and the friends provide tea/coffee and cookies. There is no charge for the film presentation; however, donations are accepted for the refreshments.

There will be some new films, as well as some from our late friend, Blanche Hogg.
