SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The 2020 Light for Life campaign has kicked off to raise funds for the Prince County Hospital.

For 25 years, this even has been an important part of the community, a vital fundraiser for the PCH Foundation and an opportunity to remember and honour loved ones,” says Prince County Hospital Foundation’s managing director Heather Matheson.

“This year, respecting the current restrictions for large gatherings, we will be unable to have our usual Lights for Life community event. We have, however, created a new way to bring our celebration to life while ensuring everyone can safely enjoy the lights, the music and the experience of Lights for Life.”

Matheson says people can still dedicate a light or display in honour or in memory of someone the way they always have. And, as usual, the lights will come on daily at 5:30 p.m., starting Dec. 2 and every night until Dec. 31.

Here is some information about the 2020 Light for Life campaign:

  • Gifts are made in memory and in honour of loved ones.
  • Dec 2-31 light shows are at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. (regular lighting 5:30 p.m. to midnight).
  • From Dec 3 and forward, keepsake dedication books are available at the PCH.
  • Gifts support medical equipment for the PCH.
  • Preferred donations are by mail, phone (902-432-2547) or online at pchcare.com.

New this year, people will be able to view the full Lights for Life show set to music from the comfort of their car at 7 p.m. and again at 8 p.m.

“Bring the family, tune the radio to 98.5 FM and enjoy the show from the PCH parking lot,” says Matheson.

Gift dedication amounts begin at $10.

As always, all gifts to Lights for Life support the purchase of much-needed medical equipment for patients at the Prince County Hospital. This year, the PCH Foundation has been working to raise $1.589 million to fund such items as cardiac monitors, birthing beds, a blood count analyzer and much more.

For the 13th year, the foundation welcomes the Credit Unions of Prince County as the presenting sponsors.

“The event is not possible without the many sponsors and supporters who contribute not only vital funds but also lighting equipment and advertising space. Supporters like the Credit Unions and Saltwire Network (publisher of the Journal Pioneer and The Guardian) really make an impact.”

Donors can visit pchcare.com for further information on Lights for Life and giving options. Donations are also accepted at the foundation office in the hospital lobby or by calling 902-432-2547.
