KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — A grocery store in Kensington is helping to alleviate some concern over the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) by offering home delivery to seniors and those choosing to stay put.

“We had a couple calls in the last three or four days from seniors asking if we could deliver,’’ says Mike Gallant, owner of Mike’s Independent Grocer.

“I think they were just concerned (with contracting the virus).’’

Dr. Heather Morrison, P.E.I.'s chief health officer, has stressed “people who are older, and especially those with chronic conditions, are most vulnerable to the virus".

Gallant estimates 10 to 20 per cent of his customers are seniors.

Home delivery, which started Monday, will be offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.

“We are just trying to serve our customers and keep everybody at ease,’’ says Gallant.
