KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — A concert March 1, 2 p.m., at Kensington United Church will feature two Island gospel groups, Jericho Road and the Stiff Family.
They will perform and share positive messages by singing traditional hymns and selections taken from country, bluegrass, and southern gospel genres.
Admission to the concert, which is open to the public, is by donation (suggested amount:$10).
For two decades Jericho Road was a well-known acoustic band specializing in gospel music. Its performances demonstrated strong instrumentation on guitar, mandolin and bass along with strong vocal leads and harmonies by Vans and Emily Bryant and Harold and Marnie Noye.
The group dissolved in 2009 but heard countless times over the ensuing years that many people missed the joy and comforting messages that Jericho Road’s music brought. As a result, the Bryants and the Noyes have reinstated Jericho Road as a gospel group, which now only accepts a limited number of requests for performances, including the concert on March 1.
This special concert will also showcase music presented by the Stiff Family from Hunter River. The Stiffs are a family of six who have been singing and playing bluegrass gospel music together as a family since the fall of 2013. The band includes parents Heather and Dave and their children, Aaron, Hannah, Elizabeth and Abigail. In the bluegrass tradition, the family plays acoustic stringed instruments that include banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and upright bass as well as singing together with beautiful harmonies.
