Bluefield high school

Bluefield teachers and staff were thrilled to welcome the newest Bobcats as students returned on Sept. 9.

Student council member Neleah Lavoie took the lead on the virtual meet-the-teacher event, showcased on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

The school celebrated its frosh last week with daily homeroom challenges, and the class with the most points at the end of the week will be awarded the 2020 Frosh Champs. The first official Blue & White Spirit Day was Sept. 18.

Bluefield will participate in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope. Each homeroom will have the opportunity to honour this Canadian hero.

On Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters on Sept. 30 – the staff and students will wear orange on to acknowledge Indigenous people who experienced residential schools.

Colonel Gray High School

Student photos will be taken at the school on Sept. 23-24 by Life Touch.

Students took home a number of forms for parents/guardians to sign. It’s important this paperwork be returned to Colonel Gray ASAP with signatures and needed corrections.

There will be no meet-the-teacher night this September but teachers will reach out to parents through email.

The Colonel Gray Christmas Craft Fair is cancelled for 2020. A decision regarding the 2021 fair will be made next May, but no vendors are currently being registered. Inquiries can be sent to [email protected].

Parents are reminded that the pick-up and drop-off site for students is from the student parking lot (closest to downtown). Follow the signs and refrain from creating an unsafe high-traffic volume in the staff parking lot.

The High School Reports feature runs in The Guardian on Mondays during the school year. All Island high schools are welcome to send in contributions. However, before doing so, either a student or staff member must contact Carolyn Drake at 902-629-6000, ext. 6036 for information on content and deadlines.
