STRATFORD, P.E.I. —

As the Town of Stratford turns 25 on Wednesday, April 1, the community celebration that was being planned is on hold due to the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain), but that won’t stop residents from celebrating in other ways.

Stratford Mayor Steve Ogden said it’s an important time for residents to continue to find ways to connect to one another, and the town’s 25th birthday is a good opportunity to encourage this to happen.

“We hope that residents will join us and find their own ways to celebrate,” said Ogden in a news release.

An event page on the town Facebook page has been created and the town will provide residents with a list of 25 ways to celebrate.

“(Residence) can take inspiration from the list we have created or find their own way to mark the day, but we hope they will make it a special day,” said Ogden.

Some of the suggested ideas include baking a birthday cake, decorating front windows with birthday messages and decorations or writing a song, poem or fictional short story about Stratford.

Residents are being asked to send in their pictures by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 2 to be included in a virtual scrapbook that is being created as well.

As many photos as possible shared on social media using #Celebrating25Together, posted in the Facebook event page or emailed to info@townofstratford.ca will be included.

The town will also be making a few $25 gift certificate prize draws from submissions received.

“We really just want this day to be something that residents remember, not only because of the situation we find ourselves in, but because it is a special day,” said the mayor.

“While we continue to social distance ourselves, it is an opportunity for us all to connect virtually with our community.”

A previously recorded video will be posted on the town’s social media accounts at 2 p.m. on April 1. Residents are invited and encouraged to play it and sing Happy Birthday along with the mayor and council at that time.

Further information as well as the link to the Facebook event can be found at townofstratford.ca.
