The family and friends of Sister Cecile Buote, missionary sister in Cameroon, Africa, invite the public to attend a fundraiser at the Rustico Bay Seniors Club in Rustico at 2104 Church Rd., Rt. 243, on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will offer food, entertainment and friendship.

For some 50 years now, serving in a poor community in Cameroon, Buote has helped families and young adults with their daily struggles as they prepare for the future. There is unrest in the region where she lives, and, as a result, many breadwinners are not working. Many families are destitute and unable to afford the necessities of life such as food, education and medical care.

In those circumstances, families often turn to Buote for help, and because of the support of Islanders she is able to do so.

But the need is great. Over the past 22 years, well over $125,000 has been raised. It has had a dramatic effect on the lives of so many. In 2018, people from all over contributed over $14,000.
