Trinity United Church in Charlottetown will be hosting its annual Christmas Fair on Nov. 15-16.
One of the longest running fairs in Charlottetown, it never fails to provide an array of Christmas goodies for everyone from one to 92.
Since its inception in the 1960s, the Trinity-Clifton Christmas Fair has undergone many innovations and changes. It started out very small with a ham and scalloped potato dinner. Today, the fair boasts something for everyone with beautiful Christmas treasures to buy at reasonable prices, including crafts, homemade pickles, jams, cookies, fudge, deli items, Christmas greenery, decorations, books and jewelry. In addition, there is a silent auction with a variety of sought-after items. Admission is free, and a lunch is served both days, so people can be nourished while they do their Christmas shopping.
The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The church is located at 220 Richmond St., on the corner of Prince and Richmond streets.
The Trinity-Clifton Christmas Fair is a major fundraiser for the church, but it also provides an opportunity for members of the congregation to work together in fellowship on various projects throughout the year.
Organizers say it is truly a labour of love.
For example, the jams and jellies are prepared during the summer, when the fruit is fresh and picked at its peak. The pickles and relishes are made in the fall using old family recipes that have been handed down for generations. The craft group meets for months creating treasures for everyone’s holiday enjoyment. Folks go to the woods to collect boughs and greenery to make lovely seasonal decorations for your home. Some members of the congregation devote hours to baking homemade cookies and sweets that will help make s Christmas feast a delight. The silent auction items also have been donated by members of the congregation.
