STRATFORD, P.E.I. – The Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team (CDART), in conjunction with PetValu, will be hosting a special “Day at the S’Paw” on Saturday, July 14, at the Stratford location, 9 Kinlock Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Everyone is invited to bring their best furry friend in for a bit of cuddling and special treatment, with all funds raised being donated directly to the Atlantic Canada Chapter of CDART. Monies raised will be used to assist the group in purchasing emergency response equipment.

Services available will include a dog wash, nail trim and basic grooming, provided by CDART volunteers. Prices range from $20 to $30, depending on which items pet owners choose. All services are to be paid in cash only.

CDART responds to disasters and emergencies that require the evacuation of pets and domestic livestock, rescuing, sheltering and re-uniting these animals with their families when it is safe to return home. CDART spokesman Ron McConnell says that last summer alone, CDART shelters in British Columbia took care of almost 2,000 animals during that province’s devastating forest fires. The local chapter here responded in New Brunswick to aid in the flood relief efforts this past spring.
