HIGH SCHOOL REPORTS: Students busy with seasonal activities

Morell Regional High School

Appreciation is expressed to S.A.V.E. (Students Against Violence Everywhere) and the staff co-ordinators for their efforts last week in showing support for family violence prevention. A Wear Purple day was held on Dec. 6 to show respect for the victims of violence.

As Islanders enters the holiday season, it becomes very busy around the school, so we remind parents and students of some very important dates. The Christmas dance and graduate dinner is Friday, Dec.14. The Christmas Concert is Dec. 18 with a storm date of Dec. 19. Participating students are to be at the school by 6:15 p.m. to prepare for the concert which begins at 7 p.m. It will be held in the lecture theater and is open to everyone.

Band Cookie Dough fundraiser has concluded. Everyone is reminded to pick up their orders at the school on Dec. 12. Graduating students are again reminded the yearbook deadline is Dec. 15. Everyone is reminded to have their information and pictures submitted to the appropriate teachers by this date.

The last day of classes for the 2018 school year is Dec. 21.

Charlottetown Rural High School

The CRHS improve team is hosting a performance/fundraiser in the school cafeteria on CRHS and Special Olympics PEI are hosting the provincial Unified Bocce tournament at the school on Dec. 18.

The Rudolph Campaign is underway. In December, it has been tradition at CRHS to focus on helping families in need. Homeroom classes will be fundraising money to support identified families over the coming weeks.

Montague Regional High School

Students are asked to check out the Kindness Kalendar in the library for the month of December. Take a challenge and ask others to complete the one for the day. Students can fill out a ballot daily in the library for a chance to win an Indigo gift card drawn on Dec 20. It’s all part of Do Good December Challenge.

The MRHS Music Department will be presenting "A Kids' Christmas", an evening of children's Christmas tunes featuring the choir, band and instrumental music class on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Tickets are $6 each and $5 for students and seniors. There will be a cake auction and sweet treats sale. One of the music department families, the Sibbicks, recently lost their house in a fire. There will be a donation box if people wish to help them out.

The MRHS Disney Band is currently selling tickets on a beautiful Christmas basket which will be drawn at the Christmas Concert. Talk to a member of the band or call the school if you would like to purchase a ticket.

The MRHS music department will be holding an alumni choir concert on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at the school auditorium. This is conductor and music teacher Christie Beck’s 25th year at MRHS and she is hoping to have former students from all 25 years represented at the concert as they put together an alumni choir for the evening. Also performing will be recording artist Rachel Beck, Ashley Condon, Brielle Ansems and others. Any interested former choir members are encouraged to join the MRHS Alumni Choir Facebook page or show up at our alumni choir rehearsal on Dec. 28, 3:30 p.m., at the school. This concert will be a fundraiser for the music department. Tickets are available at the door and cost $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. The MRHS Disney Band will be holding a snack bar during the concert.

Kinkora Regional High School

On Dec. 11, the students in the Academy Diploma Program in Agriculture & BioScience will host their 3rd Annual Buy a Cookie, Buy a Goat Fundraiser. By purchasing a cookie and a glass of milk, we are helping students at our twin school in Kenya (a program through Farmers Helping Farmers).

The Foods 421 class is excited to host a Seniors’ Tea on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 1-2 p.m. Students will prepare finger sandwiches, sweets, tea & coffee, and will get to enjoy some time getting to know a senior in our community.

The school is planning A Victory in Europe tour for 2020. This trip commemorates the 75th anniversary since the end of World War II in Europe as well as important stops from World War I. Students will be visiting France, Belgium and the Netherlands from Apr. 28 to May 7, 2020. This month, students are selling tickets on a Christmas House Tour, set for Dec. 14, as well as a Gift Card Tree. Winners will be drawn Dec. 14. The Christmas Party for the KRHS grads of 2019 is Dec. 11. Grads will meet at KRHS from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for a potluck and a Texas Swap gift exchange ($10 limit). All grads are encouraged to attend.

Colonel Gray High School

At lunch time on Dec. 12, the cafeteria will be serving Christmas dinner for $5.

The band Christmas concert is Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.

The Christmas semi-formal dance is Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 each.

On Dec. 18, Mount Allison University will be visiting at lunch time.

The last day of classes for 2018 is Dec. 21. Students return on Jan. 3.
