The P.E.I. Women’s Institute provincial board celebrates spring with the annual Roadside Cleanup, cooking contest winners and a provincial convention.
This year’s WI Roadside Cleanup and cash contest is scheduled for May 11. Residents are invited to once again participate. Yellow bags, introduced last year, can be filled and left on the side of the road on May 11. Islanders are encouraged to once again use WI bags held over from previous years, clear bags from home or to pick up the new WI bags from any IWMC facility, Access P.E.I., Maritime Electric or Summerside City Hall. WI bags will be available in early May.
Large bulky items found during the annual clean-up day can simply be placed on the side of the road. Please note, as these yellow bags are for WI clean-up only, waste carts containing yellow WI bags may be rejected outside of the cleanup time period.
Another cash contest is slated for this year and participants are again invited to take part to vie for one of three $100 cash prizes in each category in May’s cleanup. A total of $1,200 will be randomly drawn upon submission of a pledge sheet and a picture of participants in action. Divisions include family, school, community group and business. Details can be found at www.peiwi.ca or www.iwmc.pe.ca.
