Two new projects have been approved for funding under the provincial government’s $2.5 million Community Revitalization Program.
The York Point Historical Society will receive $3,570 towards the total cost of $7,141 to replace shingles on the roof of the York Point Community Centre. The Winsloe Lions Club will receive $14,621 towards the total cost of $29,243 to replace the roof, provide a water service connection and purchase an AED defibrillator.
Funding will come from the project sponsors.
The York Point Community Centre is registered with Canada’s Historic Places. It is used for dance, painting and yoga classes, Small Halls events, meetings, banquets and other activities.
The Winsloe Lions Club supports many community sports teams, hosts and caters to events in the area and over the last two years has donated in excess of $30,000 to various groups, individuals and families, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
“Completion of these projects will enable these organizations to strengthen services to their respective communities,” Rural and Regional Development Minister Pat Murphy said.
