WOODSTOCK, P.E.I. - He’s honing his craft as a stand-up comedian in Toronto but Shawn Hogan’s thoughts are rarely far removed from his West Prince roots.
The Mill River East native is currently working on material for three shows he is hosting at Mill River Resort on Nov. 15, 16 and 17.
The producer of The Hangover Cure Comedy Club, which he describes as “arguably the most popular independent comedy show in Toronto,” takes special pride in performing in West Prince.
“That’s the beautiful part of it for me,” he said. “I’ve never had support anywhere in the world as I do back home.”
Every show he’s hosted in West Prince in the past six years has sold out, he said.
Early ticket sales have him pretty convinced that will be the case again this year. Already about 75 per cent of the tickets for the Saturday, Nov. 17 show have been gobbled up and the Friday show is trending well, too, he noted.
Geoffery Irving, director of sales, marketing, golf and recreation at the Mill River Resort, is thrilled to have Hogan back for a second consecutive year, and with a third show added.
He’s also excited to show off the renovated resort to the comedy show audiences.
“He plays a great host,” said Irving, noting Hogan is bringing in two nationally-acclaimed comedians for the shows.
Shawn Hogan Productions has booked Still Standing writers Steve Dylan and Dave Hemstad for the show.
Both men are in demand on the comedy festival circuit.
As host, Hogan will open with a 25-minute set. He anticipates Dylan and Hemstad will each have about 35 minutes of stage time, and he will be back out between their performances.
“I want to bring nationally recognized talent to what should be a nationally recognized community,” he said.
Tickets to the Mill River shows can be purchased at Mill River Resort or online at millrivercomedyshow.com.
