Peace By Chocolate has begun shipping boxes of the sweet Syrian traditional treats from their new production facility in Antigonish to Sobeys stores in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.
Sobeys stores in Newfoundland will begin receiving the boxes on Dec. 4. Sobeys offers mixed boxes of either 10 or 15 chocolates.
“Sobeys is thrilled to see the product on our shelves for Atlantic Canadians to enjoy – just in time for the holiday season,” said Paul MacLeod, vice president, Atlantic Store Operations. “This has been a very special partnership for us. What started out as a meeting at a local farmers market has turned into a strong partnership. Customers have been excited for months about Peace By Chocolate coming to our stores.”
Just one year ago the Hadhad family was producing chocolates in a small, converted shed next to their residence. A meeting with Steve Read, a Sobeys local business development manager, led to support from Sobeys to upgrade and expand Peace By Chocolate’s production in a large, unused building Sobeys had acquired in Cloverville, N.S.
Chocolate production has been underway in the new facility since September 2017 and has risen 400 per cent since moving into the new facility. Peace By Chocolate now employs 20 people from Antigonish.
“Starting out in Pictou County, Sobeys began 110 years ago with a strong spirit of entrepreneurship, tenacity and perseverance in Nova Scotia,” said MacLeod. “After enduring significant hardship, it is clear that the Hadhad family has that same spirit. Sobeys is proud that Peace By Chocolate, its production and packaging facility call Nova Scotia and our stores home.”
