WELLINGTON, P.E.I. - Employers, as well as all interested employees, are encouraged to attend a lunch-and-learn seminar entitled “Employment Standards and You” next month.

The seminar takes place Tuesday, Feb. 5 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Wellington Rural Action Centre at 48 Mill Rd.

Robert Yeo, P.E.I.’s chief labour standards officer, will give a presentation that will provide an overview of the Employment Standards Act, including such topics as wages, hours of work, overtime, vacation pay, statutory holidays, special leaves, termination notices and youth employment rules (for employees under 16 years old).

Yeo will also explain the three new regulations that were enacted Dec. 29.

This seminar is meant to help people better understand the rights and obligations of both employers and employees who are covered by the provincial Employment Standards Act.

The Wellington Rural Action Centre and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of P.E.I. are jointly offering this session, which will be delivered in English only. Some documentation will also be available in French.

A light lunch will be provided with the session. The registration fee is $5 for Chamber members and $10 for non-members. To register, contact Simone Gallant at 902-854-3439, ext. 228, or at [email protected] no later than Feb. 1.
