Despite “unforeseen delays” the new Burger King slated to open in the Summerside Walmart on Granville Street is still scheduled to open sometime this fall.
The Journal Pioneer recently requested an update on the status of the fast food outlet’s opening and Walmart Canada stated that despite some unspecified setbacks, an opening is still expected before winter.
“There have been some unforeseen delays, but we’re pleased that construction is ongoing and the restaurant is slated to open this fall.”
Renovation work has been ongoing at the Walmart since earlier this year and the company had originally said the Burger King would be open sometime in the spring. It will be taking over a space that previously held a McDonalds restaurant.
Burger King last had a presence in Summerside in 2010, when local franchise owners decided to close their Heather Moyse Drive restaurant. The property was later purchased by the Summerside Port Authority. The building has since been torn down.
