Oceanic Releaf Inc. has just opened its first cannabis store in Newfoundland and Labrador, offering drive-through service to customers.

Located on the main street in Burin, near the College of the North Atlantic and the regional hospital, the 2,300 square foot retail store opened Tuesday.

The store is a partnership between Oceanic Releaf, and Delta 9, a publicly traded company that owns a five percent equity stake in Oceanic. Delta will supply product for the store.

In a press release, John Arbuthnot, CEO of Delta 9, said, “We look forward to continuing to work with Oceanic on expanding their cultivation and retail operations in Newfoundland.”

Oceanic, founded by Taylor Giovannini, also plans to grow cannabis in Burin. The company intends to convert a former fish plant into a grow operation. Work on that part of the business is still in progress.

In the press release issued by Delta 9, Giovannini said the opening of the retail store is a major milestone for Oceanic.

“We are so excited to continue normalizing the cannabis industry and creating a genuine experience for all consumers. Offering coffee and multiple ways to purchase will elevate Oceanic’s reach and brand. The drive-thru is also key in this ongoing pandemic we are all facing, and we are happy to adapt with the changing times.”

The store is offering customers an open and modern shopping décor, highly trained staff and a wide range of products, including dried cannabis flower, cannabis oil, edibles, drinkables, concentrates, coffee, tea and a full assortment of cannabis accessories. Members of the public can also sign up for free cannabis education courses offered in the store’s education center.
