JA Prince Edward Island has  announced that Ian Hanomansing, host of CBC’s, The National, will act as narrator for the 2018 Business Hall of Fame gala. CBC’s Compass host, Louise Martin, will act as host for the evening’s festivities as four outstanding business leaders are recognized. 

Jason Aspin, Mike Cassidy and Rita and Angus MacCormack will be inducted in to the 2018 Business Hall of Fame at the gala dinner on May 23 at the Prince Edward Island Convention Centre.

Hanomansing hosts The National, alongside Adrienne Arsenault, Rosemary Barton and Andrew Chang. Born in Trinidad and raised in Sackville, N.B., Hanomansing began his broadcasting career at CKDH Radio in Amherst, N.S., working at radio stations in Moncton and Halifax before joining CBC in Halifax in 1986. His assignments took him to Toronto the following year and eventually to Vancouver, where he was a national reporter for 14 years. His summer series about the environment on CBC Radio One and CBC News Network​ with Ian Hanomansing (2012-2017) won a Canadian Journalism Award in 2014 and shared a Canadian Screen Award in 2015, both for breaking news coverage.​ Other national awards include the 2008 Gemini for best news anchor​ and the 2016 Canadian Screen Award for best national news anchor.​

Martin brought her journalistic skills to P.E.I. in 2017, where she is closer to family in the Maritimes with her brother and his family living in Nova Scotia and extended family on P.E.I. She has hosted and produced hourly and breaking news updates on the CBC News Network.  Before that, she was host and producer covering business and economic news for CBC News Network. Born in Scotland, Martin has anchored news shows across the country, including CKLQ Radio, then CKX TV, in Brandon Manitoba, RDTV in Red Deer, Alberta, CBC New World business, and CBC Breaking news.

The JA Prince Edward Island Business Hall of Fame was established in 1998 by JA P.E.I. to provide a link between the province’s economic heritage and the promise of a prosperous future by honouring key Island business leaders.  The awards gala raises funds to support JA’s business and economic education programs that will reach more than 5,500 Island students this year in schools across the province.
