RIVER RYAN, N.S. — A well-known Cape Breton business has permanently closed its walk-in service.
Horyl’s Superior Sausage Company Ltd. announced the closure of Horyl’s Family Deli as a response to COVID-19 to ensure the health and safety of its storefront staff and customers.
There had been speculation in recent weeks that the business, located on Union Highway in River Ryan, would close its deli because of the virus. They confirmed the closure in a letter to customers on its website this week. Horyl’s is a family-owned and locally operated speciality meat processing company.
The company has served its surrounding communities and Cape Breton Island for more than 88 years, selling to various businesses including Sobeys.
Despite the deli closure, the company’s manufacturing plant will remain in production. The company’s products will still be available at many locally owned businesses throughout the island.
The company has sold various products over the years including kielbasa, polish sausage, salami, hot and mild pepperoni, pizza pepperoni, breakfast sausage as well as its famous pickled-polish sausage.
