SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Amalgamated Dairies Limited has secured a $500,000 loan towards its multi-million dollar cheese factory upgrade.
The dairy co-operative is putting the finishing touches on a $19 million, two-year-long, renovation to its Water Street facility in Summerside. It produces significant quantities of feta, Havarti and cheddar cheeses for its own brand, as well as those of various customers, at the facility.
The loan is being provided by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Business Development Program.
The funding was announced by Egmont MP Bobby Morrissey, Friday.
“ADL has a deep history in western P.E.I. Its products are staples on shelves in Atlantic Canada and well beyond the region,” said Morrissey.
“I am proud to see a company like this continue to invest in the community and its workers, while maintaining strong ties to the farmers that supply and share in its ownership, as it expands into new and diverse ventures.”
