SLEMON PARK – The Twisted Sisters return to action on Saturday.
Summerside’s roller derby team will face off against Cape Breton’s Tar City Rollers at The Plex in Slemon Park. The action begins at 7 p.m.
Sally Bernard, one of the Twisted Sisters captains, notes that if the history between the two teams is any indication, fans can expect a crowd-pleasing bout.
“The team is really looking forward to this bout as an opportunity to show how hard we've been working, and how far we've come since we last played them,” said Bernard, who goes by the derby name Vandana Shove'r.
“We're a little down on numbers for this one, but I know that those who are there will bring their all to the track. We can't wait!”
Bernard notes that both leagues have similar skill sets and depth of experience, but the friendly rivalry has grown over the years and the scores have gone back and forth. The first game for the Twisted Sisters last year was in Cape Breton – a 224-98 loss – but when they met again a couple months later on home turf, the Tar City Rollers’ margin of victory was 225-125.
“With this year’s skilled roster, and even more practice time under their belts, the Twisted Sisters are dreaming of redemption with this Lobster Carnival bout,” noted Bernard.

Sixth bout of season
This will be the Twisted Sisters’ sixth bout of the 2018 season. They have one win and four close losses.
The Twisted Sisters will be missing a key veteran as Shelley Schurman (Hellcat Fury) will be performing on stage at the Harbourfront Theatre instead of on the track. This will be a tough void to fill for this bout, but Summerside has borrowed some of Charlottetown’s Bootleg Betties to round out the roster.
“Of particular excitement is the return of an original Sister-turned-Betty, Lady G Slip’er, who will don her teal again in support of her old teammates,” added Bernard.
Cleverly dubbed the Lobster Clawber roller derby bout, which is being held as part of the Summerside Lobster Carnival, the Twisted Sisters hope to see lots of fans at The Plex to cheer on the hometown team. Admission is by donation, 50 per cent of which will go to Family Violence Prevention. This is a family-friendly event, with activities for kids, music, snacks and refreshments.
