CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Dalhousie Tigers are two points closer to the UPEI Panthers after winning Saturday’s contest 4-1 in Halifax.

The points are key as the teams are battling with Moncton for the final two playoff berths in the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey conference. UPEI (5-16-1) is two points up on Dalhousie (4-17-1) and three up on Moncton (3-17-2).

Chandler Yakimowicz, Colton Heffley, Reid Murphy and Andrew Shewfelt into the empty net scored for Dalhousie.

Alex Pawelczyk had two assists while singles went to Zachary Taylor, Heffley, Mike Evelyn, Yakimowicz, Josh Worthen and Kelly Bent.

Marcus Power from Darcy Ashley and Ryan MacKinnon cashed in on a power-play goal in the third period.

Corbin Boes made 34 saves for the win while Matthew Mancina allowed three goals on 26 shots in the loss before being replaced by Matt Mahalak, who stopped all seven shots in about 24 minutes of action.

Dalhousie held 2-0 and 3-0 period leads.

The Panthers host Acadia Friday at 7 p.m.
