Briar Roberts, Ibra Sanoh receive Holland College weekly honours

Soccer players Briar Roberts and Ibra Sanoh are this week’s Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.

On Friday they were named the male and female Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) players of the year for the second straight season.

Roberts, a Kinkora native in her third year with the Hurricanes, scored twice to lead Holland College past the UNBSJ Seawolves in Saturday’s semifinal. Holland College claimed its fourth ACAA women’s soccer championship in team history on Sunday after outlasting the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics 1-0 in overtime.

Roberts led the conference with 15 goals and eight assists in the regular season.

Sanoh, a Guinea native in his third year as a striker for the ‘Canes, helped the Hurricanes claim their third straight ACAA championship and sixth in team history.

Sanoh led the charge in Sunday’s 3-0 win in the final over the University of King’s College Blue Devils with a goal and two assists.

He topped the ACAA with 12 goals and five assists during the regular season.

The teams will compete at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships from Nov. 7 to 12. The men will play in Fort McMurray, Alta., while the women’s event takes place in Montreal.
