Costain scores winning goal on penalty kick in OT

The Summerside United Team One captured the Eliot River soccer tournament’s Under-14 Girls’s First Division over the weekend.

CORNWALL – It was a busy and successful weekend for the Summerside United Team One.

The United went 4-1 en route to winning the Under-14 Girls’s First Division in the Eliot River soccer tournament in dramatic fashion.

The United took on Central Queens in the gold-medal game, and Maggie Costain’s goal on a penalty kick in overtime proved to be the difference. Ariana MacFarlane scored for the United in regulation time.

 

Round robin

The United went 3-1 (won-lost) in the round robin to punch their ticket to the final.

Madelyn Reilly scored the game’s lone goal to give the United a 1-0 victory over Central Queens, and Julia Johnson scored to lift Summerside past the RC United 1-0. MacFarlane and Erin Arsenault-Gallant provided Summerside’s goals in a 2-0 decision over host Eliot River.

The United’s lone loss – 1-0 – came against Morell.

Jade Gallant recorded three shutouts and provided outstanding goaltending for the United throughout the tournament.
