Smith advances to tonight's Scotties C final

CORNWALL, P.E.I. – Veronica Smith scored a single in the 10th end to defeat Lauren Lenentine 7-6 and advance to tonight’s C final at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Smith and her Cornwall Curling Club teammates Jane DiCarlo, Sabrina Smith and Whitney Young will face the Charlottetown Curling Complex rink skipped by Robyn MacPhee at 7 p.m. with a shot to earn a berth in Sunday’s playoffs.

Lenentine led Saturday afternoon’s contest 3-0 after two ends before Smith scored a deuce in the third. The teams traded singles the next two ends before Smith stole two in the sixth and another in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead.

Lenentine scored singles in the eighth and ninth ends to head to the 10th tied 6-6.

Lenentine won the A final and MacPhee the B final in the modified triple-knockout event to secure playoff berths.

Men

Eddie MacKenzie scored a triple in the 11th end to defeat Tyler Harris 7-4 Saturday at the P.E.I. Tankard at the Cornwall Curling Club.

MacKenzie and his squad of Josh Barry, Chris Gallant and Sean Ledgerwood will meet the John Likely-skipped rink tonight at 7 p.m. in the C final of the modified triple-knockout competition. MacKenzie won the A final and Likely defeated MacKenzie in the B final.

Saturday afternoon, Harris stole a single in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The teams traded singles the next two ends before MacKenzie scored one in the eighth and stole one in the ninth to take a 4-3 lead. Harris scored one in the 10th.
