ALBERTON – The O’Leary Maroons have gained home-ice advantage in the West Prince Senior Hockey League final series.
The Maroons topped the host Alberton Regals 6-2 in the opening game of the best-of-five matchup played before an estimated 800 fans at the Jacques Cartier Arena on Wednesday night.
Jeff MacIsaac scored a hat trick to pace the Maroons, who received single goals off the sticks of Mike MacIsaac, Mike Adams and Nick Reilly. Darryl Donahue (3), Scott Bernard (2), Jordan MacIsaac, Wade Sweet and Matt Stewart contributed assists.
Garrett Lewis (1-1) and Jesse MacIntyre replied for the Regals. Matt LeFurgey and Taylor Smith set up the markers.
The Maroons led 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes, and took a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission.
Chase Dyment earned the goaltending win over Spencer Rennie.
Game 2 is scheduled for the O’Leary Community Sports Centre on Saturday at 8 p.m.
