CHARLOTTETOWN – The Summerside Capitals’ penalty-killers laid the foundation for a late rally.
The Capitals, who were trailing 2-1 at the time, killed off a 5-on-3 Capital District power play with four minutes left in the third period. That successful kill kept the deficit at one goal, and Melanie Roger scored with 12 seconds remaining to lift the Capitals into a 2-2 tie in the P.E.I. Midget A Female Hockey League contest at MacLauchlan Arena. Rodger’s equalizer came on a rebound off a shot by Kate Gaudet, who let go a hard low shot from the right side.
Kayla MacIsaac and Riley Chappell had staked Capital District to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Rodger scored on a quick snapshot in the second period to bring the Capitals to within a goal.
