Red Wings, Metros take junior B tilts on Sunday

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Road teams had the advantage in the other teams barns Sunday as the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings downed the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers 5-3 in Kensington and the A&S Scrap Metal Metros thumped the Eastern Maniacs 8-2 in Souris

With the win Western (9-5-2) moved into first place in the Island Junior Hockey League standings. Kensington to a third-place 6-6-3.

The Metros moved (9-6-1) to within one point of Western, while Eastern dropped to a league-worst 3-9-1.

 

Red Wings 5, Vipers 3

Jason Gallant scored a hat trick to lead the Red Wings past Kensington.

Calvin McRae and Connor Morrissey had the other Western goals.

Silas Handrahan picked up a pair of assists for Western.  

Spencer Sherron scored two goals for Kensington with the other marker coming from Logan Vandervelden. Easton Smith picked up a pair of assists.

Bronson Banks picked up the win in net for Western while Cameron Visser took the loss.

Western outshot Kensington 41-26, including 15-5 in the second period, and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Kensington was 0-for-3 with the extra man.

The game was tied 2-2 after the first period. Western had a 4-3 edge at the second intermission.

 

Metros 8, Maniacs 2

Barrington Duffy scored twice, including the eventual game-winning goal, and led paced the Metros to the win.

Jordan Birt and Tanner Lund (1-1) netted first period goals, followed by Duffy’s first and a marker by Cale (1-1) Pierce in the second.

Connor Gray (1-1), Taylor Runighan (1-2), Dylan MacDonald and Duffy rounded out the scoring in the third frame. Alex Hall chipped in two assists.

Eddie Jenkins potted both Maniacs scores in the third, while Spencer Compton assisted on both.

Alex Kelly earned the goaltending win over Cam Duffy.

Eastern outshot the Metros 40-26. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
