ABRAM-VILLAGE – The Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings rallied in the third period for the second game in a row Sunday night.
The Red Wings scored the only two goals of the final 20 minutes to pull out a 6-5 decision over the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros. The win, which came a week after the Red Wings struck for four unanswered third-period goals in a 7-5 decision over arch-rival Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers, improved Western’s record to 4-5-2 (won-lost-overtime losses).
The Red Wings are now tied with the Vipers (4-3-2) for second place in the Island Junior Hockey League standings.
At the Evangeline Recreation Centre, the Metros jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after the opening period, and led 5-4 at the end of two.
Cole Hackett (2-1) netted the tying goal at 9:40 of the third period, and Chasse Gallant’s unassisted tally at 13:05 proved to be the difference. Isaac Callaghan (1-1), Jason Gallant and Silas Handrahan also lit the lamp for the Red Wings. Other assists were credited to Evan Millman, Lucas Beaulieu, Alex Morrissey, Isaac Knox and Curklan Fraser.
Dylan MacDonald (2), Cody MacPhee (1-1), Pat McGuigan and Jordan Birt contributed goals for the first-place Metros (7-4-1). Zach Ladner, Nick Currie, Cale Pierce, Colin Koughan, Tanner Lund and Connor Gray picked up assists.
Colby Landrigan earned the goaltending win over Sam Walsh. Overall, the Red Wings outshot the Metros 49-36.
