Tyne Valley won two of the five divisions in the 43-team Mill River Resort Hockey Classic held in West Prince from Friday to Sunday.

The Bantam Boys final went to overtime before Tyne Valley prevailed 3-2 over Cole Harbour.

Tyne Valley was also the winner in one of the two all-P.E.I. division finals, downing O’Leary 7-4 in the Novice Girls final. Tignish won the Novice Boys final 4-3 over Pownal.

In an all-Bedford final, Bedford White downed Bedford Gold 3-2 in overtime to win the Pee Wee Boys championship game. TASA doubled Chebucto Green 4-2 to win the Atom Boys championship.

The Hockey Classic featured 77 games in five divisions and utilized all five western P.E.I. rinks from Abram-Village to Tignish.

Classic coordinator, O’Leary Recreation Director, Jeff Ellsworth, acknowledged the Mill River Resort as major sponsor and Greco Pizza for sponsoring the players of the game awards.

“All teams battled hard and we witnessed some great hockey action,” Ellsworth reported. He acknowledged the on- and off-ice officials, staffs of the host rinks and everyone who assisted with timing, music or any of the other details that helped make the Classic a success.
