CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Dalhousie Tigers used a big second quarter to defeat the UPEI Panthers 85-70 Saturday to end the Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball regular season.
The Tigers (16-4) finished first in the conference while the Panthers (3-17) missed the playoffs in seventh place.
Dal led 21-18 after the first quarter and after outscoring the host Panthers 28-13 in the second went to the halftime break up 49-31. They increased the lead to 66-45 heading to the final 10 minutes.
Kensington native Sven Stammberger led the way for the Tigers with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting. He added four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Xavier Ochut chipped in 13 points off the bench while Alex Carson went for 12, Kevin Duong 11 and Sascha Kappos 10, as the Tigers hit 51 per cent of their shots from the field.
Samy Mohamed, playing his final game for the Panthers, had a team-high 17 points, going 4-for-8 from downtown. Milorad Sedlarevic added 12 points while D’Adrian Allen chipped in eight points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
