Owls perfect 3-0 in SIS tip-off basketball tournament

Strong showing for Summerside Intermediate School girls

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Intermediate School (SIS) girls had a perfect showing on their home court.

The Owls posted a 3-0 (won-lost) record in the 41st annual SIS tip-off basketball tournament, held in memory of former school principal and longtime volleyball and basketball coach Glenn Edison.
The Owls opened play with a 30-17 win over East Wiltshire, and followed that up with a 44-24 decision versus Hernewood and a 58-20 victory over Stonepark.
The two-day tournament attracted 10 intermediate AA teams – six boys and four girls – and play took place on Friday and Saturday. Games were played at the SIS and Athena Consolidated School gymnasiums.

The teams played a round-robin schedule, and there were no championship games.
Following is a recap of the girls’ games:

SIS 30 East Wiltshire 17
Paige MacLean, who was named the Owls’ player of the game, scored 12 points to lead the way. Grace Morrison (point total unavailable) was East Wiltshire’s top scorer.
Jillian Sanford was East Wiltshire’s player of the game.

SIS 44 Hernewood 24
Emma Harris poured in a game-high 13 points for the Owls. Elijah Lubigan had eight points for Hernewood.
Players of the game were Jill Power (SIS) and Calista Bulger (Hernewood).

SIS 58 Queen Charlotte 20
MacLean led SIS with a 15-point performance, and Harris was selected the Owls’ player of the game.
For Queen Charlotte, Sydney Strain paced the offence with six points, and Gracie McQuaid earned player-of-the-game honours.

 

Queen Charlotte 49 Hernewood 32
Grace Killorn’s 10 points sparked Queen Charlotte’s offence. Hannah Gallant (8) was the top point-getter for Hernewood.
Bianca Boutillier (Queen Charlotte) and Chloe Gallant (Hernewood) were recognized as players of the game.

East Wiltshire 40, Hernewood 18
Elesea Glenn was credited with 10 points for East Wiltshire, and Gallant contributed nine for Hernewood.
Players of the game were Amber Campbell (East Wiltshire) and Alyx Shea (Hernewood).

 

Queen Charlotte 36 East Wiltshire 33
Strain sank 30 points for Queen Charlotte, and Morrison had six for East Wiltshire.
Players of the game were Monica Gallagher (Queen Charlotte) and Glenn (East Wiltshire).
