Tignish Girls opened play in the Eastern Canadian U12 softball championship tournament Thursday evening in O’Leary with a 7-5 victory over the O’Leary Reds, but they fell Friday morning 9-1 to New Brunswick’s Kennebecasis Valley (KV) Dynamite.

In the only other game on Thursday’s schedule, West Royalty (P.E.I. 4) scored a 19-4 win over Summerside (P.E.I. 3).

While KV Dynamite was getting past Tignish on Jeff Elsworth field in the 8 a.m. game Friday, New Brunswick 1, the Southern Black Bears were outscoring Team Nova Scotia, also by a 9-1 score.

Action continues all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The first boys’ action is set for 2 p.m. today when host O’Leary takes on the East Hants NS Mastadons on Ellis Field, and Alberton, takes on Brookfield, N.S. on Ellsworth Field.
