Storm defeats division-leading Hurricanes in overtime

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Jahii Carson hit two free throws with 3.9 seconds to play in overtime as the Island Storm defeated the Halifax Hurricanes 115-114 Thursday at the Eastlink Centre.

It capped a back-and-forth affair that saw the Storm lead 23-21 after one quarter and 51-43 at the half. The Hurricanes got hot in the third and held a 82-69 advantage heading to the fourth, but the Storm refused to quit.

Akeem Ellis led the way with 30 points and 10 assists while Terry Thomas had 28 points and eight rebounds. Jahii Carson chipped in 23 points and nine assists.

C.J. Washington had 28 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Hurricanes while Mike Poole had 18 points and point guard Clifford Clinkscales 15 points and nine assists.

The Storm improved to 16-19 while the Hurricanes fall to 26-11.

The Storm plays its third games in as many days Friday when it travels to Sydney, N.S., for a 7 p.m. contest with the Cape Breton Highlanders.
