CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – A pair of Holland College Hurricanes women’s basketball records could be broken this weekend.

Breauna Rivoli-Johnson is six steals away from the single-season record while Jayla Verney is 17 made free-throws away from achieving a new season high.

The Hurricanes play a pair of weekend games. It starts today at home against the Crandall Chargers at 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men. The teams hit the road on Sunday for games in Saint John, N.B., versus the UNBSJ Seawolves at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. for the women and men, respectively.

The women’s Hurricanes squad (10-4) is second in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) standings, but enter the weekend on a two-game losing streak after dropping both games last weekend at home versus the first-place Mount Saint Vincent Mystics.

The Chargers (0-14) are in the basement while the Seawolves (2-11) are sixth.

The men’s Hurricanes (15-1) are in first place and have won 10 straight games.

They will have to be at their best today when they host the third-place Crandall Chargers (11-5). The teams have split the two games this season.

The Seawolves (6-9) are fifth in the ACAA standings and have lost both meetings with the ‘Canes this season.
