HALIFAX, N.S. – The Red Rock 15-and-under women’s volleyball team had a successful weekend, finishing second at the Scotia Juniors 16-and-under tournament in Halifax.

The first-year Island squad went 3-1 in round-robin play, only coming up short against the 16-and-under Fuzion team from Moncton. Red Rock then upset the first-place team from Dieppe, N.B., in a semifinal match. Red Rock came out strong in the first set, winning 25-21. In the second set, Dieppe had a five-point lead throughout the entire game but, with strong serving performances from Red Rock players Jenna Cyr and Marie Fogarty, the Island squad tied the game at 22. The two teams fought hard point-for-point, but Red Rock finally put an end to the game with a solid block from Jenna O’Neill and Sydney Strain to make it 27-25.

Red Rock lost the final to the undefeated 16-and-under Fuzion team. Fogarty and O’Neill were top-scorers with eight and seven kills, respectively, while Ella Hickey served five aces and had 17 assists.
Red Rock will continue to train for the next week before heading to the 15-and-under Canadian championship in Edmonton on May 15.
