CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Lexi MacInnis and Brett Butler are this week’s Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.
MacInnis, in her first year with the Hurricanes women’s basketball team, helped her squad secure three victories in three games.
On Wednesday in Fredericton, N.B., she scored 14 points to go with 11 rebounds, a steal and a block as the ‘Canes defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 83-72. She followed it up Saturday with 26 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist in a 72-63 win over the UNBSJ Seawolves.
In Sunday’s 64-57 win over the Mount Allison Mounties, MacInnis scored 10 points, while recording five rebounds, three steals, a block.
The Stratford native is studying in the bioscience program.
Butler, a fourth-year player for Holland College’s men’s volleyball team, led the ‘Canes to two wins over the Seawolves.
In Saturday’s 3-1 win over UNBSJ, Butler had 23 kills, seven digs and an assist. He followed it up with 13 kills and three digs in a straight set sweep on Sunday.
With the two weekend victories the ‘Canes improve to 10-1 this season and lead the Seawolves and Tommies, who sit in a tie for second at 6-5 in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association standings.
Butler is from Charlottetown and studying in the journalism program.
