Island Storm going purple

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Island Storm has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society and P.E.I. Credit Unions to host a cancer awareness game.
It will be held on Sunday, March 18, at 2 p.m. when the Storm hosts the Cape Breton Highlanders.
The Storm will wear custom purple jerseys, which fans can bid on in a silent auction after the game. All proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. There will also be free admission for any cancer patients and survivors on P.E.I.
“The Credit Unions of P.E.I. are proud to support the Canadian Cancer Society and the Island Storm,” said Doug Bridges, Credit Union marketing and communications officer. “With so many families impacted by cancer, it’s important to raise awareness and funds to help fight cancer on Prince Edward Island.”
The cause hits close to home for Storm guard Franklin Session, who lost his father to cancer at an early age. He said information can be an important tool in the fight against cancer.
“Maybe if he knew more about it and knew more about how to take care of his body it would have avoided taking him so early,” he said.
The Canadian Cancer Society will be setting up an information booth during the game to provide information for anyone interested in learning more about how to help and how to make donations.
There will be an eBay store for the silent auction or fans can bid during the game, near the merchandise tent. It’s a chance for everyone to help an important cause and take home exclusive customized Storm game-used jerseys.
