CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Holland College Hurricanes defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 3-1 (25-23, 25-13, 26-28, 25-20) Wednesday in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball action in Charlottetown.

The ‘Canes were led by Sam Gerbig, who had 15 kills and nine digs. She also recorded 10 aces, which ties the all-time Hurricanes women’s volleyball single-game record.  New Haven’s Sydney Foy set the record on Feb. 7, 2015, and Gerbig tied her on Jan. 7, 2018, and repeated the feat on Wednesday.

Megan LeBlanc added 13 kills and 19 digs in the win while also chipping in with an ace and a block. Brittany States also reached double figures in kills with 10, along with an ace, two digs, and two blocks. Gracie Ferguson dished out 42 assists while Dana Trainor and Lauren Moerike both had 17 digs in the win.

The win improves the Hurricanes record to 12-3 on the season, which is good for second place and a two-point lead over the St. Thomas Tommies. The Hurricanes trail the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics (16-0). The Mounties fall to 4-11 on the season, which has them in sixth place in the ACAA.

The Hurricanes travel to Church Point, N.S., for weekend games with the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons (0-15). Saturday’s game takes place at 6 p.m. with Sunday’s starting at 11 a.m.
