Holland College places third in recent ACAA badminton event

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Holland College Hurricanes finished third at the recent Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) badminton meet in Charlottetown thanks to first-place performances by Emma Hughes, Larry Liang and Juana Zhang.

Hughes went 4-0 to win the women’s singles A event, while Liang and Zhang teamed up to win the mixed doubles B competition.

Holland College finished behind first-place Mount Allison and second-place King’s College for its second straight third-place finish. Fourth went to the Université de Sainte-Anne and fifth to Dal AC.

‘Canes players Josh Watkins went 3-1, good for second in men’s singles A. Eric Renouf also went 3-1 and placed second in men’s singles B.

Hughes and Connor Loerick had a 2-2 record in mixed doubles B, while Renouf and Craig McAskill went 2-2 in men’s doubles B.

Loerick and Matt Barlow were 0-3 in men’s doubles A.

The next ACAA meet goes Jan. 19-20, in Halifax.
