Gallaway has been a staple in the Prince Edward Island ringette community since 1991.  Since then he’s coached with the Charlottetown Ringette Association as well as the under-16 and under-19 provincial ringette team. He has been the coaching co-ordinator with the Charlottetown association and director of coaching at the provincial level.

“I think it’s great to see Holland College add ringette to their athletic program,” Gallaway said. “It will certainly give young women the opportunity to continue their ringette growth and become role models for many young Islanders.”

The Hurricanes will compete with colleges and universities around the Maritimes this year, including Saint Mary’s, Acadia, Dalhousie and St. FX.

The Hurricanes have been gauging the interest in forming a ringette club for some time and have received positive feedback from current and incoming students since announcing the team would move forward for 2017.

“Having had 36 years of experience in the education field and many years coaching sports, my players can expect good communications, flexibility and the encouragement needed to believe in themselves,” said Gallaway, a teacher at Bluefield High School.

Although the Hurricanes have received positive feedback from many of the provinces best players they realize the work needed to compete with programs that have been established at bigger schools for many years.

“My main objective this season is to ice a team that is competitive and can create a solid foundation for the future success of the ringette program at Holland College,” Gallaway said.
