The 43rd annual awards night will be held Feb. 8 at Holland College’s Florence Simmons Performance Hall.
“We had another extraordinary year in Island sport,” said Sport P.E.I. president Tracey Clements. “Our awards night will, again, allow athletes, coaches and officials to receive the recognition they deserve for working tirelessly throughout the year towards achieving their goals. What is particularly amazing is the level of international experience the finalists and winners have achieved.”
Leading the field of athletes will be the nominees for the Bell Aliant senior athletes of the year. The male finalists are Brett Gallant (curling), Mark Arendz (biathlon) and Kyle Baillie (rugby). On the female side, Amy (Kneebone) Burk (goalball), Caitlin Campbell (biathlon) and Shannon MacAulay (hockey) will look to take top spot.
Five of the awards have already been determined.
They include Holland College men’s basketball coach Josh Whitty as P.E.I. Mutual Insurance coach of the year and the college’s women’s basketball squad as the SCORE! team of the year.
Soccer’s Lori Lund is the ADL administrator of the year, swimming’s Marguerite Middleton is the P.E.I. Mutual Insurance official of the year and powerlifting’s Heather Ayles is the ADL masters athlete award winner.
The event is marking its first time being hosted at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall, but familiar faces of Matt Rainnie and Jo-Anne Holden will be back to emcee the proceedings.

Intercollegiate male athlete of the year – Alex Cyr (cross-country), Ligrit Sadiku (wrestling) and Trevor Banks (wrestling).
Intercollegiate female athlete of the year – Jessica Cameron (hockey), Ellen Murphy (rugby) and Briar Roberts (soccer).
DP Murphy Hotels and Resorts junior male athlete of the year – Jordon Montgomery (rugby), Mark Rainnie (tennis) and Lucas Boudreau (biathlon).
DP Murphy Hotels and Resorts junior female athlete of the year – Ava Boutilier (hockey), Emma Jinks (squash) and Hannah Taylor (wrestling).
