Ferguson, Johnston receive ‘Canes weekly awards

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Nicole Fergusson and Tyler Johnston are the Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.

Fergusson, a third-year player from Oakfield, N.S., scored the Hurricanes only goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over the UNBSJ Seawolves in Saint John, N.B., in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) women’s soccer action. It was her second goal of the season.

The women’s soccer ‘Canes went 1-1 during the weekend and are now 4-2-0 and in third place in the standings.

The 5’6” striker is studying in the sport and leisure management program.

Johnston, a first-year Hurricanes pitcher from Cardigan, improved his regular season record to 3-0 on Saturday in a five-inning performance versus the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits while striking out five.

The six-foot-one chucker is enrolled in the construction technology program.
