CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The front end is proving to be a valuable asset in the preferred ranks this season at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park (CDP) as was the case again Saturday evening.
The $2,500 preferred pace saw Czar Seelster and driver Kenny Arsenault use a hard brush off the starting gate to secure the early lead and remain unchallenged the rest of the mile to a snappy 1:55.3 victory. Todd Weatherbee trains Czar Seelster for owner Tammy Johnston of Stratford. Euchred (Gilles Barrieau) had to circle from the back of the pack to finish second with Keep Coming (Adam Merner) third.
Winter Blast employed first-over tactics to capture the $2,100 back-up pace in 1:58.4 for driver Jason Hughes, trainer Jennifer Doyle and owner Danny Birt of Stratford. Second went to Junebugs Baby (Ken Murphy) with Confident Fella (Marc Campbell) third.
Tobins With You scored the biggest upset of the night, winning the $1,250 opener at $29 on the nose for a win ticket. Earl Smith engineered the winning trip for owner Paul Hagen of Hunter River.
Live racing returns to the CDP on Thursday evening with a 6:30 p.m. first race post time as the capital oval switches to racing twice a week for the summer with Thursday and Saturday programs.
