SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Two-time Olympic gold medallist Heather Moyse is making a comeback.
The 39-year-old Summerside native made the announcement on YouTube late Monday afternoon.
Moyse said she was asked in March if she would return to the sport, but turned it down. She then received an email in early August from a development pilot on Bobsleigh Canada.
“It changed the whole way I looked at the opportunity of coming back,” she said on the video. “That email made me realize, how much I have to offer the up-and-coming athletes, the athletes who have never experienced an Olympic Games before.”
The next winter Olympics are in PyeongChang, South Korean, from Feb. 9-25.
Moyse, who won gold with pilot Kaillie Humphries in 2010 and 2014, said she knows she has work to do to make the national team after not having trained for three years and having dealt with a recent back issue. She said she wants to share her experience with others while trying to inspire and empower the next generation.
“It’s not about me winning another Olympic medal, but it is exciting at the thought of potentially helping somebody else win their first,” she said.
“I hope you join me on this journey.”
