O’Leary’s set for U12 softball ch’ships

O’LEARY

The Eastern Canadian Under 12 Boys and Girls softball championships on Ellis Field and Jeff Ellsworth Field in O’Leary will get underway on Friday, August 24.

Thirty games - 20 girls’ and 10 boys’ - are scheduled to be played over three days.

O’Leary Recreation director Jessica Gillis says eight girls’ and four boys’ teams are confirmed for the tournament. That includes four girls’ and two boys’ teams from P.E.I.

Official opening ceremonies are set for Thursday, August 23 at 7 p.m.. Tyler’s DJ Service will be set up at the field for a dance and games night for all the teams around 7:30 p.m.

Then it’s all business by 10 a.m. Friday.

Championship games in both divisions are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday. There’s an 8 p.m. game under the lights on Ellis Field Friday night and the last game of the day there on Saturday is slated to start at 7 p.m.

Gillis said recreation staff and close to a dozen volunteers are on deck to stage the tournament.

Greco and O’Leary Kwik Way sponsors the player of the game awards and several other sponsors are assisting with the tournament.
