ALBERTON

The P.E.I. Provincial Mixed Curling modified triple knockout championship at Western Community Curling Club will go to the maximum number of draws.

Jamie Newson and his Charlottetown Curling Complex and Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club team scored themselves a ticket to Monday’s 2 p.m. winner-take-all final with a 3-2 victory over Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut in Sunday evening’s “C” section final. Newson blanked the fourth through seventh ends after Schut tied the game with a single in the third. He got the necessary single for the win in the eighth.

It was Newson and his team of lead Miranda Ellis, Andrew MacDougall and Melissa Morrow’s first win in three section finals. Making it to all of the section finals, however, is what gave them the bye to Monday’s play-off final.

They await the winner of Monday’s 10 a.m. play-off semi-final between “A” section winner Tyler MacKenzie and his Charlottetown Curling Complex team of Jodi Murphy, Doug MacGregor and Aleya Quilty and the “B” section champ of Sydney Howatt, Nicholas Johnston, Sierra Clyke and Mitchell Schut from Cornwall.
