McCue records three points in UPEI win

HALIFAX, N.S. – Beau McCue scored twice, including the game winner, Friday as the UPEI Panthers doubled the Dalhousie Tigers 4-2 in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action in Halifax.

The Panthers led 2-0 after the first period and McCue made it 3-0 with his first of the game 1:25 into the second period. Dal scored twice in 1:21 to cut the deficit to one with 3:35 left in the game.

McCue iced the victory with an empty net goal with 27 seconds to play.

Marcus Power and Gabe Guertler also scored for UPEI. Kameron Kielly had two assists while singles went to McCue, Guertler, Darcy Ashley and Ryan MacKinnon.

Jackson Playfair and Alex Pawelczyk scored for Dalhousie.

Matt Mahalak made 32 saves for the win while Corbin Boes stopped 23 shots in the loss.

UPEI was 1-for-3 on the power play and killed both of Dalhousie’s man advantages.

UPEI improved to 4-8-1 while Dalhousie falls to 2-10-1. The Panthers conclude their weekend road trip in Antigonish, N.S., with a 7 p.m. game against the St. FX X-Men.
