CORNWALL, P.E.I. – Eddie MacKenzie scored a deuce in the eighth end and stole two more in the ninth for a 7-2 victory over John Likely Saturday in the C final of the P.E.I. Tankard at the Cornwall Curling Club.
It means MacKenzie will have to be beaten twice on Sunday when the playoffs begin. MacKenzie and his foursome of Josh Barry, Chris Gallant and Sean Ledgerwood can repeat as provincial champs by defeating Likely, Robert Campbell, Matt Nabuurs and Robbie Doherty Sunday at 2 p.m. A Likely win would force a winner-take-all contest at 7 p.m. between the same two teams.
MacKenzie won the A and C finals while Likely claimed the B final at the five-team, modified, triple-knockout event.
Women
Robyn MacPhee didn’t quit Saturday in the C final of the P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Trailing 5-3 heading to the ninth end the Charlottetown Curling Complex squad of Sarah Fullerton, Meaghan Hughes and Michelle McQuaid scored singles in the next two ends and then had a triple in the 11th for an 8-5 victory over the Veronica Smith rink from the host Cornwall Curling Club.
The MacPhee can repeat as provincial champs with a win Sunday at 2 p.m. over Lauren Lenentine. A Lenentine victory forces a final game a 7 p.m.
Lenentine won the A final at the five-team, modified triple-knockout championship while MacPhee won the B and C finals.
