MacInnis, Whyley earn Hurricanes weekly awards

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Basketball players Lexi MacInnis and Roosevelt (Chicken) Whyley are this week’s Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the wee.

MacInnis, a first-year guard from Stratford, was named the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Assocaition (ACAA) rookie of the year on Friday. She helped the Hurricanes advance to the semifinals with a 61-57 victory Friday over the UNBSJ Seawolves in quarter-final action. She recorded 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal.

MacInnis, a bioscience student, had 14 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal in Saturday’s 65-44 semifinal loss to the Mount Allison Mounties.

Whyley, a fourth-year forward from Nassau, Bahamas, was named to the ACAA (ACAA) first All-conference team.

The sport and leisure management student had 25 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and three steals in Sunday’s 100-64 win over the Crandall Chargers to claim their sixth straight ACAA championship.
